Cookie Policy
Effective date: June 15, 2025
GradeNova uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, understand how you use the platform, and improve your experience. This Cookie Policy explains what cookies we use, why we use them, and how you can control them.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember information about your visit — for example, keeping you signed in or remembering your preferences. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and device fingerprinting.
2. Cookies We Use
| Category | Purpose | Can you opt out? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary | Authentication tokens, session management, security. Required for the platform to function. Cannot be disabled. | No |
| Functional | Remember your preferences (theme, language, notification settings) so you do not have to reset them on every visit. | Yes |
| Analytics | Understand how visitors use GradeNova — which pages are viewed, how long users stay, and where they come from. Used to improve the platform. | Yes |
| Performance | Measure platform performance, detect errors, and monitor response times to ensure GradeNova runs reliably. | Yes |
3. Local Storage and Session Storage
In addition to cookies, GradeNova uses browser local storage to store your authentication token and user preferences on your device. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted unless you make a request to our servers. You can clear this data by logging out or clearing your browser's storage from your browser settings.
4. Third-Party Cookies
Some features of GradeNova may load content from third-party services. These services may set their own cookies subject to their own privacy policies. We do not control third-party cookies.
Current third-party integrations that may use cookies or storage:
- Cloudinary — used for image uploads and delivery (profile photos, project thumbnails).
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — used to deliver push notifications to your device.
5. How to Control Cookies
You can manage cookies in several ways:
- Browser settings: Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings (Chrome → Settings → Privacy → Cookies; Firefox → Preferences → Privacy; Safari → Preferences → Privacy).
- Log out: Logging out removes your authentication token from local storage. Any session cookies will also expire.
- Clear storage:You can clear local storage from your browser's developer tools (Application → Storage → Clear site data).
Please note that disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in and using GradeNova.
6. Push Notification Tokens
If you grant permission for push notifications, GradeNova stores an FCM (Firebase Cloud Messaging) device token associated with your account. This token is used solely to deliver notifications to your device. You can revoke notification permission at any time from your browser or device settings.
7. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will update the effective date at the top when we do.
